Ridership: April 2026

System-wide ridership for April 2026 increased 2.5% or by 18,600 unlinked trips per weekday from April 2025.

Average daily ridership was 769,247 unlinked passenger trips across all modes. This is 2.6% higher than March 2026!

Six of the ten highest ridership days in the past year occurred in April. Ridership numbers were strong despite lower ridership during the first week of the month due to Easter/Spring Break. The increase in ridership was driven by warm weather, gas prices, Penn Relays, and special events at the Sports Complex including Philadelphia Flyers Playoffs Round 1 and Philadelphia 76ers Playoffs Round 1.

Ridership peaked at a 12-month high of 874,463 trips on Tuesday, April 14 thanks to concurrent Phillies and Flyers home games. The Penn Relays at Franklin Field in University City is the reason Regional Rail ridership was up 9% on Thursday, April 23 and up 14% on Friday, April 24 compared to a typical day this spring.

Bus ridership spiked this month. It increased by 4.1% or 15,867 unlinked trips per weekday compared to this time last year. Saturday ridership increased by 9% and Sunday ridership dropped by 3%. Bus ridership accounted for 52.7% of total ridership which us up from 51.9% last year.

The five routes with the strongest year over year growth by total number of trips are Route 63, Route 3, Route 60, Route 23, and Route 2.

Ridership on the B, L, and M increased by 4% or 7,842 trips. Ridership on the B was bolstered by Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies games at the Sports Complex. Ridership on the M was down 13% due to the Bridgeport Viaduct being closed for maintenance.

Trolley ridership declined by 8% on the T and by 5% on the D. These losses were partially offset by the G which saw an 8% increase in ridership.

Metro ridership accounted for 36.3% of ridership.

Regional Rail ridership declined by 3% or 2,343 trips per weekday relative to this time last year however it is up 13% from February 2026 and has reached its highest level since the start of the SLIV crisis. Ridership has been steadily increasing the past two months which correlates with the spike in gas prices. Regional Rail ridership accounted for 10.7% of ridership.
