[M] Norristown High Speed Line Shuttle Busing, Aug. 1 – Dec. 19 

To support an important major rehabilitation and structural repair project on the M’s Bridgeport Viaduct, shuttle buses will replace train service on portions of the line for 20 consecutive weeks. This is the second phase of this project, and it will take place from Saturday, August 1 through Sunday, December 19. The third and final major outage is planned for early 2027.

Service Information & Dates of Shuttle Busing

August 1 – August 21, bus service is provided between Norristown Transit Center and Bridgeport Station. Train service operates as normal between Bridgeport Station and 69th Street Transit Center.

August 15 – August 23, as part of this project, there will be shuttle busing on the Regional Rail Manayunk/Norristown Line. Bus service replaces trains from Norristown – Elm Street Station to Norristown Transit Center. Train service operates as normal from Norristown Transit Center to Center City.

August 22 – August 30, bus service is provided between Norristown Transit Center and Gulph Mills Station. Train service operates as normal between Gulph Mills Station and 69th Street Transit Center.

August 31 – December 19, bus service is provided between Norristown Transit Center and Bridgeport Station. Train service operates as normal between Bridgeport Station and 69th Street Transit Center.

Please plan ahead for bus/train connections at these stations and expect an increase in your travel time.

Bus information will be available on separate pages for the M Shuttle Bus and the Norristown Line Shuttle Bus. These bus trips are not shown on the M schedule page nor the Norristown Line schedule page. Riders can plan trips that use both the M train, Norristown Line Regional Rail train and both bus shuttles in combination using the SEPTA trip planner.

Project Details

Construction will take about one year to complete, with three separate major outages planned: March 29 – May 9 (completed), August 1 – December 19 and January 18, 2027 – February 6, 2027.

During this project, SEPTA third-party contractors plan to complete the following:

  • Repaint the entire viaduct
  • Lacing bar, rivet & bolt and bearing replacements
  • Concreate substructure cleaning and repairs
  • Concrete deck replacement
  • Concrete sidewalk repair at Norristown Transit Center
