Germantown Ave. Track Removal to Affect Bus Route 23, Local Traffic, Oct. 12 – Nov. 9

SEPTA crews will remove the northbound and southbound tracks on Germantown Ave between W Butler St and W Pike St. Afterward, the street will be restored with new concrete, asphalt and repainted traffic lines. This work will correct uneven areas in the roadway, which will eliminate potential hazards and allow for a smoother ride for buses and other area traffic.

Project Location and Hours

The work will take place on Germantown Ave between W Butler St and W Pike St from October 12 through November 9, 2026.

Normal construction hours are 7 am to 6 pm Mondays-Fridays. However, there may be weekdays where crews work past 6 pm. Occasional weekend work may also be needed to maintain the project’s timeline.

Impact on Riders

Bus Route 23 will be detoured for the duration of the project. To accommodate the detour, there will be a partial parking lane closure on Germantown Ave, south of W Butler St on the right side. Check for posted signs.

Check SEPTA’s Alerts and Detours page for travel information or call Customer Service at 215-580-7800.

Impact on Area Traffic

Germantown Avenue between West Butler Street and West Pike Street will be closed to all traffic around the clock for the duration of the project.

In addition to the closure, a no parking restriction will be in place in the construction zone or adjacent to the tracks being removed. Vehicles traveling on McFerran Street will not have access to Germantown Avenue.
