Crews have been excavating a portion of Bethlehem Pike since construction began in January 2025. The construction is ongoing and scheduled to be completed in fall 2026. The project will connect the north lot stormwater basin to the existing stormwater line underneath the roadway.
The work includes a new ADA-accessible platform, new railroad track, ADA-compliant restrooms, a new fire alarm system, updated lighting, building repairs and new roofing on all platforms. The existing canopy is being restored and reinstalled on the new platform.
Project Location And Hours
The work will take place on Bethlehem Pike between Newton Street and East Chestnut Hill Avenue from October 9 through October 16, 2026.
Normal construction hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm Mondays-Fridays. However, there may be weekdays where crews work past 3:30 pm. Occasional weekend work may also be needed to maintain the project’s timeline.
Impact on Riders
Regional Rail service will operate as normal and be accessible via the temporary platform.
Bus Routes 51 and 94 will be detoured on weekdays between 6:15 am and 3:30 pm. Check SEPTA’s Alerts and Detours page for travel information or call Customer Service at 215-580-7800.
Impact on Area Traffic
Bethlehem Pike between Newton Street and East Chestnut Hill Avenue will be closed to all traffic on weekdays while work is occurring.
In addition to the closure, a no parking restriction will be in place on Bethlehem Pike. During work hours, residents are asked to move/relocate any vehicles normally parked on Bethlehem Pike between Newton Street and East Chestnut Hill Avenue.
Project Details
- Any excavation work will be covered with metal road plates at the end of each shift.
- Emergency vehicles will have access as needed. Trash collection and other city utilities will continue to have access.
- Commuters will have access to the temporary platform from the parking spaces on East Chestnut Hill Avenue.
- The sidewalk at the corner of Bethlehem Pike and Newton Street to the temporary platform will be closed.
