Ridership: May 2026

System-wide ridership for May 2026 matches that of May 2025. Total ridership grew 7% from May 2024 to May 2025 fueled by a 15% increase in Metro ridership therefore setting a difficult standard to surpass.

Average daily ridership for May 2026 was 768,194 unlinked passenger trips across all modes which is pretty much even with ridership in April 2026.

Bus ridership increased by 2.8% or 11,320 unlinked trips relative to this time last year. This year-over-year growth made it the third highest ridership month since the start of the pandemic. Bus ridership is now 53.6% of total ridership compared to 52.1% last year.

The five bus routes with the strongest year over year growth by total number of trips are Route 23 (950), Route 2 (820), Route 63 (653), Route 113 (653), and Route 3 (631).

Metro ridership decreased by approximately 2.6% or 7,228 unlinked trips relative to this time last year.

Trolley ridership declined by 9% on the T and by 4% on the D. These losses were partially offset by the G which had an 4% increase in ridership.

Regional Rail ridership declined by 4.6% or 3,916 trips relative to this time last year however it is up 11% from February 2026. The PGA Tournament generated strong ridership on the Paoli/Thorndale Line. Ridership on the line was up 25% during the week of 5/11-5/17. There were an additional 26,004 unlinked passenger trips on the Paoli/Thorndale Line thanks to the PGA Tournament.

Cinco de Mayo (5/5) was the second highest ridership day in the past year with 876,678 unlinked trips.

There were three school holidays in May which negatively affected ridership: PA Primary Day, Memorial Day, and Eid al-Adha.
