T Weekend Shuttle Busing for 33rd St Substation Repairs, Aug. 29-31

On the following weekends, the T trolley tunnel will be closed, and all five T lines will be bused for their full on-street portions and diversion routes. Riders can transfer at 40th and Market for connection to the L to/from Center City.

The trolley tunnel will close at 2 am on Saturdays, with a gradual transition to busing through the overnight hours. All five T lines will be fully bused by 5 am Saturday until 5 am Monday on the following weekends:

  • Saturday, August 29 to Monday, August 31
  • Saturday, September 12 to Monday, September 14
  • Saturday, September 19 to Monday, September 21
  • Saturday, September 26 to Monday, September 28

On Monday mornings, some T4 line and T5 line trips continue to operate as a bus to 40th St Portal for select trips through the afternoon hours.

These closures are necessary to allow SEPTA to make critical repairs to an electrical substation at 33rd St. The substation, which powers both the Trolley Tunnel and the diversion route, experienced water intrusion in recent weeks that makes these repairs necessary to avoid potential unplanned outages.

Schedules & Real-time Information

Since trolley service will be operating on the surface, real-time vehicle locations may be available, but scheduled service may be subject to change. Please allow for extra travel time.

Maintaining Direct Connections During the Trolley Tunnel Closure

This service plan differs from a typical diversion. Instead of trolleys running to 40th and Market, these routes will be replaced with buses above ground, serving the same stops as the trolley routes and standard diversion service.

Because the outage affects the power on the diversion route as well as the tunnel, busing the entire aboveground route means that riders will only need to transfer once at 40th and Market.

We understand the frustration that these closures cause and appreciate your patience as we undertake these critical repairs.
