System-wide ridership in June was 75% of pre-COVID June 2019 ridership. This is the highest recovery rate since the start of the pandemic! May still holds the record for highest total ridership.
Average daily ridership was 662,882 unlinked passenger trips across all modes.
System-wide ridership increased 18% from June 2023. On average there were approximately 102,937 more trips per day in June 2024 compared to June 2023.
Bus, trackless trolley, and subway/elevated experienced the highest recovery rates since the start of the pandemic.
Bus & trackless trolley ridership increased 13% from June 2023 (312,920) to June 2024 (353,404).
There are now a total of 13 bus routes with ridership equal to or greater than June 2019 totals.
The five routes with the highest recovery rates are Route 49 (129%), Route 120 (124%), Route 70 (114%), Route 1 (107%), and Route 54 (107%).
Sunday recovery rates are still strongest for bus. Ridership recovery is strongest during midday (9AM – 3PM) and evening hours (6PM -10PM). During the 2PM, 7PM, and 8PM hours – ridership recovery stands at 80%. Ridership recovery is weaker during the late night and overnight hours.
Subway/elevated ridership increased 39% relative to June 2023. It is at 68% of pre pandemic levels based on revenue ridership data.
Ridership recovery for trolley is at 61% as of June 2024 when compared to the pre-COVID June 2019 total. October 2023 ridership is still the highest both in terms of the total number of unlinked passenger trips and recovery rate.
Regional Rail ridership recovery is at 66% as of June 2024 when compared to the pre-COVID June 2019 total. Ridership has also increased 14% relative to June 2023 – an increase of 9,442 unlinked trips per day!
