Due to an infrastructure project in the University City Tunnel that connects SEPTA train service between 30th Street and University City, weekend service adjustments will be made to SEPTA’s Airport, Media/Elwyn and Wilmington/Newark Regional Rail lines on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.
During the weekend tunnel closure, SEPTA’s in-house forces will be working to replace a deteriorated beam found during a routine inspection earlier this year. When the beam was discovered, SEPTA crews immediately stabilized it to continue safe operation of trains through the tunnel while a new beam design was finalized and fabricated. This weekend crews will install the new beam.
Due to the closure of the University City Regional Rail tunnel on October 15 -16, service along SEPTA’s Airport, Media/Elwyn and Wilmington/Newark lines will be affected:
Airport
Shuttle buses will operate in place of all train service between 30th Street Station and Airport Terminals A-F. Customers looking to connect with Airport Line service from other rail lines should take trains to 30th Street Station to connect with Airport Line shuttle bus service.
Media/Elwyn Line
Customers traveling inbound from Elwyn must transfer to shuttle buses at University City Station. Shuttle buses will take customers to 30th Street Station where they can connect with other Regional Rail trains to complete their inbound trips to Center City.
Media/Elwyn Line customers traveling outbound from Center City to Elwyn must board shuttle buses at 30th Street Station. Shuttle buses will transport customers from 30th Street Station to University City Station where passengers can connect with Media/Elwyn Line train service to complete their outbound trips. Media/Elwyn Line train service will operate on a different schedule Saturday, October 5 and Sunday October 6 to accommodate the bus to train connection. Customers can view the supplemental weekend schedule at: https://www.septa.org/alert/med.html
Wilmington/Newark
Trains will not stop at University City Station. Wilmington/Newark Line customers traveling to University City Station should travel to 30th Street Station and board shuttle buses. The shuttle buses will travel from 30th Street Station to University City Station.
Customers traveling outbound from Center City towards Wilmington will need to transfer from any Regional Rail Line to Wilmington/Newark Line trains at 30th Street Station. Customers should look for directional signage at 30th Street Station as the boarding location will change on October 15 – 16. Trains will board at an Amtrak lower level platform.
Directional signage will be posted at stations and will include shuttle bus boarding location information. Passengers can visit https://www.septa.org/service/rail/tunnel-closure.html to view changes to their train lines and download the supplemental schedule.
