Trolley Tunnel Reopens Overnight; Sunday & Monday Maintenance Closures Continue

T Trolley Tunnel Reopens Service Update

Beginning Friday, May 22, the T Trolley tunnel will reopen for regular overnight service, Tuesday through Saturday. On Sunday and Monday nights, from 10 pm until 5 am, the tunnel will continue to close for routine maintenance, and trolleys will run on diversion to 40th and Market. Passengers should connect to the L for continued service to/from Center City.

Note: Due to the Memorial Day holiday, there will be no Monday night closure this week only.

As riders know, the T Trolley tunnel unfortunately experienced an extended closure this past winter due to issues with overhead infrastructure caused by excessive wear on the carbon material within the sliders, a part that that connects the vehicle to the overhead wire.

Since the trolley tunnel reopened for daytime service in January 2026, crews have been performing heightened safety inspections, checking the sliders for carbon wear every time a vehicle enters the tunnel, as well as closing the tunnel each night to inspect the overhead infrastructure. The results of this monitoring have shown that the tunnel is safe to reopen overnight for regular service.

Please note that schedule and real-time information may not be accurately reflected in SEPTA’s app or website, or third-party apps like Google, Apple and Transit until Sunday, June 14 with the start of the new summer schedules. Riders should refer to the current PDF schedules posted on SEPTA.org for trolley arrival and departure times.
