Officer Jennifer DellaVecchio began her career with the SEPTA Transit Police Department in January 2020 as a patrol officer. From the outset she set her sights on joining the department’s K9 Unit—a goal she proudly achieved. Today, she serves alongside her K9 partner—Swen who was trained through the TSA Homeland Security program. Together they completed a rigorous 12-week bomb detection training course at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

In February 2025 Officer DellaVecchio was honored to be selected by Homeland Security to work at the Super Bowl in New Orleans. The opportunity to be part of a high-security national event—especially one featuring her hometown team—was a career highlight.
Before entering law enforcement—Officer DellaVecchio was a schoolteacher in Philadelphia. She taught in both Catholic and public school systems working with primary and middle school students. Her background in education continues to influence her policing style. It has equipped her with strong communication skills and a deep sense of empathy. She believes these qualities are essential in building trust and making positive lasting connections in the community.
Officer DellaVecchio finds fulfillment in the everyday moments on duty—whether it’s reuniting a missing individual with their family or offering support to someone in distress. She believes that even small gestures can have a powerful impact.
Her family has been a constant source of strength throughout her career transition, offering unwavering support through the police academy and out-of-state K9 training. Outside of work she enjoys cheering on her daughter in basketball and flag football—often accompanied by her husband and parents. She is also a dedicated fitness enthusiast committed to maintaining her physical and mental well-being. Starting her law enforcement career at 48 has only fueled her motivation to stay in top shape.
Officer DellaVecchio values the camaraderie within her department and frequently participates in events such as the Run for Blue and the Ben to the Shore Ride. She believes these shared experiences foster a stronger more united department.
For her maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential. It allows her to serve the public with energy, compassion, and professionalism—bringing the best version of herself to the job she loves every day.
Thank you Officer DellaVecchio for your service!
