PHILADELPHIA (February 18, 2026) – SEPTA is informing customers that the Authority will end sales of “Key Tix” effective Monday, March 2. Tickets will remain valid for 180 days from the date of purchase.
Key Tix is a mobile ticketing platform that allows riders to download a QR code ticket that can be read at fareboxes and turnstiles on all Bus and Metro services.
SEPTA launched Key Tix in December 2022 as a simple solution for occasional riders who want to enjoy the same benefits as Key cardholders.
However, with contactless payment options available on all modes since April 2025, demand for Key Tix has decreased significantly. While SEPTA is approaching two million contactless trips per month, mobile tickets have dropped to just 10,000.
With contactless payments, customers can simply tap any credit or debit card in physical form or through mobile wallets using Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.
Families and friends traveling together can use a Key card and enable the multi-rider feature to allow up to five riders on one Key card.
In addition to contactless payments and Key cards, SEPTA also accepts Quick Trip tickets and cash on all modes.
