SEPTA Ends Key Tix Sales on March 2; Riders Must Use Tickets within 180 Days of Purchase

Key Tix Sales End March 2

The launch of contactless payment, which is available on all SEPTA modes as of April 2025, has significantly decreased the demand for Key Tix. For this reason, SEPTA has made the decision to end the Key Tix app-based ticketing program in support of other, more flexible payment options.

SEPTA offers a multitude of easy and convenient fare options that meet the needs of all our riders.

  • Contactless: Credit/debit cards, in physical form or through apps like Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, are accepted on all SEPTA transit at any turnstile or farebox with a simple tap on the validator.
    • New Contactless Multi-rider feature: SEPTA is preparing to launch multi-rider for contactless payment options. Check back soon for more information.
  • SEPTA Key card: Reloadable, contactless chip card with options to load Passes and/or Travel Wallet funds for seamless travel.
    • Key card Multi-rider feature: Enable multi-rider to allow up to five riders on a single Key card.
  • Cash: SEPTA accepts cash for travel on bus, Metro and Regional Rail; exact fare is required for bus and Metro.
  • Quick Trip: Single one-way ride on the L, B, M and select T stations (13th St, 15th St/City Hall and Drexel Station at 30th St). Not valid on bus; no free transfers.

Riders must use their Key Tix within 180 days of purchase. The last date to purchase a Key Tix is March 1 and the final date Key Tix will be accepted is Friday, August 28. After this, any unused Key Tix will no longer be valid or accepted as fare payment. No refunds will be issued for unused Key Tix.

Background

Key Tix was a mobile ticketing platform that allowed riders to download a QR code ticket that could be read at fareboxes and turnstiles on buses and all Metro lines.

Moving forward, SEPTA determined that other payment technologies – particularly the expanded capability of contactless – will better serve our riders.
