World Suicide Prevention Day

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. All month mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness.

World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10. It’s a time to remember those affected by suicide, to raise awareness, and to focus efforts on directing treatment to those who need it most.

Suicide takes precious lives. It affects anyone, anywhere, at any time, devastating families and even communities.

The National Suicide Prevention Line transitioned two years ago to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Since then the number has resulted in more than 10 million contacts and countless lives saved.

If you or someone you know is experiencing distress or thoughts of suicide you can call, text, or use the 988 chat room any time and anywhere. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides free and confidential support as well as resources to help you find the care you need.

We want to prevent suicide by taking action. New 988 signage has been installed throughout our stations to help those in crisis.

We also encourage riders to contact SEPTA Transit Police via the SEPTA app if you see someone is distraught and/or in distress. You can also contact SEPTA Transit Police with a simple text message to (215) 234-1911. Click here for a list of risk factors.

At SEPTA we want you to know you are not alone. With help comes hope.
