Weekend Bus Detours for Open Street: West Walnut, September 22

Open Streets: West Walnut takes place on four consecutive Sundays in September, beginning September 8 through September 29. Pedestrians are invited to stroll through this extension of public space since streets will be used as walkways, allowing retailers to expand outside. Some plan to offer exclusive discounts, in-store entertainment or special incentives as part of Open Streets: West Walnut. Learn more about Open Streets events, hosted by Center City District.

On Sunday, September 22, SEPTA Bus routes 9, 12, 21 and 42 will be detoured from their normal routes beginning 7:30 am until 6 pm due to street closures. Bus detour information and updates or changes to services will be published on septa.org. Additional detours could be added throughout the day due to unscheduled road closures.

The following streets will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic from 10 am to 5 pm:

  • 1500 Walnut Street to 18th Walnut Street
  • 18th Street from Locust Street to Sansom Street

The cross streets will remain open at select intersections, including 16th Street, 17th Street, 19th Street and the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Sansom Street.
