SEPTA has received a top transit industry award for the presentation of its operating budget, which once again has been recognized for its detail, clarity and transparency.
For the ninth straight year, SEPTA’s Operating Budget earned the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award,” from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. SEPTA is among 1,353 members to receive recognition for the period covering Fiscal Year 2014.
Recipients were required to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. GFOA assesses the effectiveness of each agency’s budget as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.
“We strive to present our budget in a clear, concise and transparent manner,” said SEPTA Chief Financial Officer Richard Burnfield. “We will continue to look for new methods to provide this detailed information in ways that are understandable and accessible.”
SEPTA has made a number of enhancements to its budget document in recent years, including supplementing core budget data with charts and graphs to help explain details about funding, revenue and expenses. It also explains how SEPTA uses funds to provide services to local communities.
