SEPTA Alerts Riders to Bus Detours During Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, Nov. 16-17

Dozens of Bus Routes to be Adjusted for Street Closures; Riders Urged to Plan Ahead

SEPTA would like to alert bus riders to a number of detours that will be in place due to road closures for the Philadelphia Marathon and related events this weekend, Nov. 16-17.

Dozens of SEPTA bus routes will be adjusted in the Center City area to accommodate the festivities. Below are the routes scheduled for detour, although SEPTA notes that additional detours could be added throughout the weekend due to unscheduled road closures.   • Saturday, Nov. 16, Rothman 8K and Kids Run at the Philadelphia Marathon – Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 19th and 24th Streets: Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43 and 48 will be detoured in this area from approximately 4 am to 1 pm
  • Sunday, Nov. 17, Road closures for set-up of Philadelphia Marathon – Benjamin Franklin Parkway between Eakins Oval and 20th Street: Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43 and 48 will be detoured starting at approximately 3 am
  • Sunday, Nov. 17, Philadelphia Marathon – Starts at 22nd & Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with the course and street closures covering parts of Center City, Penn’s Landing, Fairmount Park and surrounding areas before ending at the Art Museum. Routes R, 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 16, 17, 21, 23, 25, 27, 32, 33, 35, 38, 40, 42, 43, 47, 47M, 48, 57, 61, 64, 65, 124/125 and 15 (bus replacement for trolleys) will be detoured starting at approximately 6 am Regular SEPTA service will resume as soon as possible after the race.

SEPTA suggests that riders using buses in the areas affected by road closures consider alternative travel options using SEPTA’s rail modes, particularly the Broad Street Line, on which there will be extra service Sunday, Nov. 17 before and during Marathon, and also leading up to the 1 pm. Eagles game. Riders may also be able to use other SEPTA rail options, such as the Market-Frankford Line, trolley routes and Regional Rail for their travel needs while buses are on detour.
