A supersized version of SEPTA’s annual ‘Santa Express’ will help merrymakers kick off the holiday season this year with the SEPTA SANTA EXPRESS-ES running in FULL FORCE this year. Fourteen trains running on various modes will head to Center City, Philadelphia to kick off the holiday season on Friday, November 24. A full list of trains and times can be found here. All of the trains listed arrive in time to see Santa Board at any stop along the way.
Now in its 32nd year, Santa’s helpers will be on each train to hand out special gift bags for kids, filled with candy, a noisemaker, a ‘Santa Express’ button, beads, and more. Everyone is invited to sing along to live music at select stations and onboard select trains.
“This is such a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season, and SEPTA is so happy to be a part of it,” said SEPTA CEO and General Manager Leslie S. Richards. “We are honored to be part of this cherished tradition and thrilled to welcome families and all riders who want to be part of it.”
Revelers are welcome to join SEPTA and Center City District for fun-filled holiday train rides to 15th Street/City Hall Station and Suburban Station, followed by a festive parade to welcome Santa & Mrs. Claus to Rothman Orthopedics Ice Rink at Dilworth Park. Stay and skate with Santa (appearing until noon) and shop for gifts at the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market. The SEPTA Store, located at 1234 Market Street, will also be open for shoppers to find that perfect gift for the transit enthusiast on their list.
“Center City District is proud to once again partner with SEPTA on this fantastic event, which brings joy and the spirit of the season to Center City,” said Michelle Shannon, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Center City District. “Since 2014, we have been happy to welcome thousands of children and their families from across the city to celebrate the holidays on our Rothman Orthopedics Rink at Dilworth Park, and we hope to continue the tradition for many years to come.”
Festivities start at 11 am at Dilworth Park with more live music and ice skating.
Children under 12, when accompanied by an adult, ride for free on SEPTA. Regular weekday fares apply.
