Ridership: September 2025

System-wide ridership for September 2025 decreased 4% from September 2024.

Average daily ridership was 761,879 unlinked passenger trips across all modes. Ridership declined by 33,510 unlinked trips per weekday.

Bus ridership declined 6% or approximately 25,850 unlinked trips relative to this time last year. Bus ridership improved once service was restored on September 14, 2025 however average daily ridership on weekdays was still 4% lower than the September 2024 average.

Metro ridership declined by approximately 5% or 13,831 trips relative to this time last year. Ridership on the L, B, and M decreased 3% relative to September 2024—a decrease of 6,833 average weekday trips. Ridership on the T decreased by 11% or 6,998 unlinked trips per weekday compared to September 2024.

Regional Rail ridership grew by 7% compared to this time last year reaching an average of 90,523 weekday unlinked trips—the highest level since February 2020. This rate of
growth is consistent with trends from earlier in the calendar year despite the 21.5% fare increase on September 14, 2025. The effects of the SLIV FRA safety inspection mandate are expected to be reflected in the October report.

This month’s ridership decline can be attributed to the service cuts that were implemented during the first 13 days of the month, the 21.5% fare increase implemented on September 14, 2025, and several holidays including Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah.

We continue the fight to secure the resources our system needs to guarantee the future of public transit in our region so that we can continue to meet or exceed expectations. We appreciate your ridership and patience during this challenging time. Your support means a lot as we work to restore the reliable, stable, and safe service our riders deserve.
