Ridership: January 2025

Average daily ridership in January 2025 was 705,848 unlinked passenger trips across all modes which is 72% of pre-COVID December 2019 ridership. SEPTA service levels have recovered to 88%.

System-wide ridership increased 9% from January 2024 to January 2025. On average there were 58,506 more trips per day in January 2025 compared to January 2024. Most of this ridership growth is from the Broad Street Line [B] and the Market-Frankford Line [L].

Broad Street Line [B] and Market-Frankford Line [L] ridership increased 22% relative to January 2024. It’s currently standing at 69% of pre-pandemic levels. Heavy Rail (Broad Street Line [B], Market-Frankford Line [L], and Norristown High Speed Line [M] daily ridership is 205,867 unlinked trips which represents 29% of January 2025’s total ridership. The Broad Street Line [B] experienced high ridership on Eagles game days (playoffs) in January. DraftKings sponsored free rides home from NRG Station on Sunday, January 26.  

Bus growth was 3% or 11,310 unliked trips relative to January 2024. Daily ridership on bus is 354,820 unliked trips which represents 50% of total ridership.

Three bus routes have a recovery rate exceeding 90% including one route – the 47M – with ridership exceeding January 2019 ridership levels. The five routes with the highest recovery rates include Route 47M (123%), Route 42 (93%), Route 21 (90%), Route 40 (89%), and Route 108 (88%).

Bus ridership increased 4% on weekdays, 11% on Saturdays, and 14% on Sundays relative to last year. Ridership during the 1PM, 2PM, 3PM, 7PM, and 8PM hours have the strongest recovery rates.

Trolley [T] ridership decreased by .3% or 179 unlinked trips relative to January 2024. Weekend trolley ridership recovery has been stronger than weekdays. Ridership increased 3.6% on Saturdays and increased 23% on Sundays. Trolley ridership is 53,668 unlinked trips or 8% of total ridership.

The Route 15 [G] has a recovery rate of 96%, Trolley [T] Routes 10, 11, 13, 34, 36 have a recovery rate of 61%, and Routes 101 & 102 [D] have a recovery rate of 58%.

Regional Rail is 11% of total ridership and continues to experience strong growth over the past year. Regional Rail ridership increased 10% or roughly 6,933 unlinked trips per weekday relative to January 2024.
