Phillies Charities, Inc. is part of the Phillies MLB organization with a focus on providing grants to local causes primarily in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware areas. Just a few of the nonprofits they have contributed to include ConKerr Cancer, The Food Trust, Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania and many more. One of the ways they fundraise is through events like their 5K race, and the 16th annual 5K, presented by Fox Chase Cancer Center, takes place this Saturday.
Getting to the Race
If you’re participating in the 5K, SEPTA is a great way to ensure you arrive on time. The race begins and ends at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies’ home base. The [B] Broad Street Line provides service via NRG Station. There is a free transfer to the [B] Broad Street Line from the [L] Market-Frankford Line and Trolley routes at 15th Street/City Hall – and it is a short walk from Regional Rail stations in Center City. Bus route 4 provides direct service to the Sports Complex.
If you’re taking PATCO into Philadelphia from New Jersey, riders can take the [B] Broad Street Line to travel to the stadiums. Exit PATCO at 12th/13th & Locust Street Station. Take the escalator or stairs to concourse level, exit PATCO’s fare gates and follow signs to exit to street level. Head north on S 13th Street toward St. James Street, then left onto Walnut Street. SEPTA’s Walnut/Locust Station is on the corner of Broad & Walnut streets.
