In partnership with the Jewish Arts Center, the Old City Menorah Lighting is an annual celebration of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, right in the heart of historic Philadelphia. The ceremony highlights the traditions and enduring spirit of Hanukkah while bringing the community together in a warm, heritage-rich environment to honor the holiday.
Getting to the Menorah Lighting
If you’re headed to the event, SEPTA is a great way to ensure you arrive on time. It takes place by the Betsy Ross House at 239 Arch Street, a brief walk from 2nd Street Station on the on the [L] Market-Frankford Line. There is a free transfer to the [L] Market-Frankford Line from the Broad-Street Line [B] and Trolley routes at 15th Street/City Hall – and it is a short walk from Regional Rail stations in Center City.
If you’re taking PATCO into Philadelphia from New Jersey, riders can take the [L] Market-Frankford Line to travel to the menorah lighting. Exit PATCO at 8th/Market Street Station. Take the escalator or stairs to concourse level and exit PATCO’s fare gates. Follow the blue signs approximately one block through the concourse to the [L] Market-Frankford Line.
Road Closures
To facilitate the event, Arch Street between Broad and 3rd Streets will be blocked off to traffic, which will impact SEPTA’s bus service until 6 pm. The full list of affected routes is below; for specific details on the detours, please visit SEPTA’s Alerts and Detours page.

Payment must be made using the SEPTA Park app, via text or at the kiosks. To avoid violations, please be sure you’ve paid for enough time. SEPTA allows overnight parking at most Regional Rail stations, [M] Norristown High Speed Line stations, and at Fern Rock Transit Center and 69th St Transit Center parking lots.
