National Engineers Week 2026

National Engineers Week is celebrated throughout the US during the week that encompasses George Washington’s actual birthday which falls on February 22. The National Society of Professional Engineers created National Engineers Week in 1951 to call attention to the contribution engineers make to society. It is observed by more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies and recognized by more than 50 corporations and government agencies including SEPTA.

This year’s themeTransform Your Future” not only celebrates the engineering profession but aims to increase public dialogue on the need for engineers and inspire youth through creative and collaborative activities.

Engineering can be defined as the use of scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other items including bridges, tunnels, roads, vehicles, and buildings. The world (and public transportation) wouldn’t be what is today if it wasn’t for the brilliant minds of engineers throughout history. Some famous engineers include Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Ada Lovelace, Nikola Tesla, Olive Dennis, and Gustave Eiffel.

There are currently more than 200 engineers employed here at SEPTA many of whom started as interns or co-ops. SEPTA offers an array of engineering positions for current and future candidates to apply to from Civil Engineers to Senior Project Engineers. The Authority offers job stability, a pathway for growth, competitive pay, and great benefits.

Make your mark in history and apply today!
