Bicycle enthusiasts heading to the 27th Annual Philadelphia International Cycling Championship on Sunday, June 5, can breakaway to the race’s prime viewing spots by taking SEPTA Regional Rail. Extra service on SEPTA’s Manayunk/Norristown Line means spectators won’t “hit the wall” waiting in traffic before they get to “The Wall,” located just steps from Manayunk Station.
Twelve additional roundtrip trains with extra cars will be added to the Norristown Line Sunday schedule on race day. Trains will leave Norristown Transportation Center every 30 minutes from 7:54 am to 6:54 pm. Service from Center City to Manayunk/Norristown will leave 30th Street Station every 30 minutes from 7:20 am to 7:20 pm
Trains to Manayunk and Center City will also leave earlier than the regular Sunday Manayunk/Norristown Line schedule. Passengers should pick-up a special bike race timetable or visit https://www.septa.org/events/bikerace.html for individual station times. Manayunk/Norristown trains will not continue to Marcus Hook/Wilmington. Passengers continuing south from Center City will need to transfer to Marcus Hook/Wilmington trains.
And the party doesn’t have to stop when the last biker crosses the finish line. Passengers can take advantage of SEPTA’s late night trains that leave Manayunk headed to Norristown at 10:45 pm and 11:45 pm. Or depart for Philadelphia at 10:02 pm and 11:02 pm
Spectators wanting to see all the twists and turns of the race can take advantage of the Manayunk/Norristown Line’s proximity to key points along the race route by purchasing SEPTA’s individual or family Independence Passes to save on their travel costs. Pass holders can repeatedly get on and off SEPTA’s trains, buses and trolleys all day for one price. Passes, which can be purchased prior to race day at SEPTA sales locations, are $11 (individual) and $28 (family). For complete details, visit https://www.septa.org/fares/pass/independence.html.
SEPTA ticket offices will be open between 7 am and 5 pm at Norristown Transportation Center Regional Rail Station, Conshohocken, Manayunk, East Falls and all Center City stations. Spectators should purchase their tickets before boarding trains.
To make travelling to the race on SEPTA even more convenient, there are nearly 1,900 parking spaces in SEPTA lots along the Manayunk/Norristown Line. All SEPTA surface parking lots are free on weekends.
During the competition, SEPTA bus Routes 7, 9, 27, 32, 33, 35, 38, 43, 48, 61, 65, 124, 125, K, and R will operate on local detours. For additional information, contact SEPTA Customer Service at 215-580-7800.
