[D1]/[D2] Weekend Shuttle Busing Until May 2026

D1/D2 Weekend Shuttle Busing thru may 2026

SEPTA riders should be aware that during all weekends from December 2025 through May 2026, shuttle buses will replace all [D1] and [D2] trolley service.

The bus substitution is necessary to allow SEPTA crews to perform work that will enhance the safety of these trolleys.

Recently, severe inclement weather events, including a fallen tree, occurred that affected SEPTA’s [D1] and [D2] trolley service for an extended period of time. To prevent future incidents of this type from happening, SEPTA is taking proactive measures.

Earlier this month, crews began the process of trimming tree branches and brush, as well as removing dead tree branches or hazardous trees, along the route [D1] and [D2] trolley lines. This will improve operator sight lines and also prevent brush from falling into the track area, potentially damaging infrastructure.

Project Location and Hours

The work will take place along the routes of the [D1] and [D2] trolley lines. Maps of these routes are available on septa.org/maps.

The project began in December 2025 and will continue until May 2026. Work will occur on weekends only.

Impact on Riders

Riders should plan for approximately 15 minutes of additional travel time and look for signage at stations for bus boarding locations.

Impact on Local Area

Motor and foot traffic in the area will not be impacted.

Crews may occasionally need to enter private property to access trees – SEPTA will contact residents if there is a request for property access.

Loud noises typical of the equipment used in vegetation management should be expected.

Project Details

  • This project is critical for safety by ensuring full visibility to operators and keeping the tracks functional and in good condition by preventing trees from falling on them.
  • In general, trees will be trimmed from the track side.
