System-wide ridership in April 2024 was 69.5% of pre-COVID April 2019 ridership. This is the highest recovery rate since the start of the pandemic!
System-wide ridership increased 18% from April 2023. On average there were approximately 108,581 more trips per day in April 2024 compared to April 2023. This is based on the calendar month.
Average daily ridership was 702,934 unlinked passenger trips across all modes.
All modes experienced ridership growth relative to this time last year. Combined ridership for the Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford Line (195,409) and the overall recovery rate (64%) is the highest since the start of the pandemic. Ridership has increased 41% relative to April 2023.
Trackless Trolley ridership is also at its highest level since the start of the pandemic (12,327) with a recovery rate of 65%.
Bus and Trackless Trolley ridership has increased 8% from April 2023 (347,786) to April 2024 (375,310).
The five routes with the highest recovery rates are Route 49 (157%), Route 150 (118%), Route 40 (96%), Route 42 (94%), and Route 54 (94%).
For Bus – Sunday recovery is the strongest. Ridership recovery is strongest during the midday hours (9AM – 3PM). During the 2PM hour – ridership recovery stands at 78%. Ridership recovery is weaker during the late night and overnight hours.
Ridership recovery for Regional Rail is at 64% as of April 2024 when compared to the pre- COVID April 2019 total. Ridership has also increased 18% relative to April 2023 (an increase of 12,347 unlinked trips per day).
Trolley ridership recovery is at 59% as of April 2024 when compared to the pre-COVID April 2019 total. October 2023 ridership was the highest both in terms of the total number of unlinked passenger trips and recovery rate. February 2024 was the second highest in terms of ridership recovery and total ridership.
