2025 T-Shirt Design Winner

The SEPTA Store is always looking for fresh ideas for t-shirt designs and in June 2025 posted a contest asking for submissions. The store received over thirty (30) very unique designs but it was Margaret Mahoney’s line drawing that captured the team’s attention.

Margaret is an artist and designer based in Philadelphia. She primarily focuses on digital art and occasionally explores painting and block printing. Her work is inspired by the everyday lives of those living, working, and enjoying the city around her.

Margaret explains, “I first started drawing buses to celebrate a cornerstone of city life that doesn’t receive as much appreciation as other public transit options like the train and trolley. Buses outnumber both trains and trolleys in Philadelphia yet fewer people express their love for riding the bus. It is an underappreciated mode of transportation relied upon by tens of thousands in our city alone. Buses keep people moving to work, to school, and to friends’ houses. I have taken the bus to various places (shoutout to the 29!) and I wanted to portray the bus in a way that reminds people that you can explore all of Philadelphia with just a few bus transfers. While it may not be as flashy as a train or trolley but where would we be without hearing the ‘Caution: bus is turning’ voice while out and about?”

Margaret’s t-shirt is a vibrant tribute to the city of Philadelphia and SEPTA. Featuring iconic symbols and designs that reflect the spirit of both the city and its transit system—this t-shirt is perfect for locals and visitors alike!

You can purchase this one of a kind t-shirt online at shop.septa.org or if you prefer a more personal shopping experience you can visit The SEPTA Store located at 1234 Market Street where friendly staff will assist you in finding the perfect fit.
