Fall 2024 Proposed Fare Adjustments, Notice of Public Hearings

SEPTA announces proposed fare adjustments, including the elimination of a number of discounts, as the Authority faces a $240 million annual budget deficit. SEPTA will hold public hearings regarding the proposed fare adjustments on October 16 at 10 am and 4 pm.

Notice of Public Hearings

October 16, 2024 – 10 am and 4 pm

Members of the public may attend the Fare Hearings in-person in the Board Room at SEPTA Headquarters, 1234 Market Street, Mezzanine Level, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or remotely via WebEx. Additional information regarding the fare modifications and details on how individuals can register to attend via WebEx has be posted on the Authority’s website: www.septa.org/notice.

At the hearings, SEPTA will present the proposed fare modifications. Those wishing to speak at the morning or afternoon session in-person or via WebEx must register by the start time on the day of the public hearing. A sign language interpreter will be present during the public hearings. Individuals may submit comments via email on the proposed fare modifications to operatingbudget@septa.org, provide oral comments via voicemail by calling 215-580-7772, or file written comments by mailing to the Director of Operating Budgets, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, 1234 Market St., 9th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19107. All comments and testimony received will become part of the public record and will be forwarded to the Hearing Examiner. To be included in the official public record, comments must be received by Friday, October 18, 2024, at 5 pm.

Modifications are being Proposed for the Following Tariffs

Tariff No. 1 City Transit Division and Tariff No. 155 Suburban Transit Division

  • Fare increase presented above
  • Aligns Travel Wallet, Contactless, SEPTA Key Tix, and PATCO fare with the Cash/Quick Trip base fare rate
  • Eliminates the direction restriction on transfers
  • Eliminates token acceptance retroactive to January 2024
  • Renames Weekly/Monthly TransPass to Weekly/Monthly TransPass+
  • Eliminates TransPass+ rule extending free weekday offpeak travel to/from Philadelphia Regional Rail stations
  • Includes new reference to Cross County Pass and Key Advantage All Access Pass

Tariff No. 132 Interdivisional

  • Renames Weekly/Monthly TransPass to Weekly/Monthly TransPass+
  • Renames Universal Travel Program to SEPTA Key Advantage Program

Tariff No. 154 Railroad Division

  • Fare increase presented above
  • Aligns Quick Trip and Travel Wallet fare by zone
  • Aligns onboard fare for travel at all times by zone
  • Discontinuance of evening weekday off-peak fare discount
  • Eliminates rule extending free weekday off-peak travel to/from Zone 2 or higher stations applicable to TransPass+, and Zone 1 and Zone 3 TrailPass
  • Reassigns three Zone 2 stations into Zone 1 (Overbrook, Tulpehocken, and Wissahickon)
    Redefines via fare as travel to/from Zone 2 or higher stations
  • Includes new reference to Key Advantage All Access Pass
  • Introduces new Contactless payment method pending future launch
